5 Traits To Build In Yourself
Growth only happens when you accept that you need it.
This is week one of my Praxis Adventure. One of the things we are doing this week is identifying 5 traits we want to gain or enhance. So here are the 5 traits I chose and what they mean to me.
1. Bravery
When I was little I was scared of a lot of things like things that might be in the dark or falling from a high place. Of course, any childhood wouldn’t be complete without a touch of stage fright. As I’ve grown up those fears have mostly faded. Making room for others like the fear of failure which can be good and bad if controlled. For example, you should never let the fear of failure stop you from trying to do something you’ve never tried before and should instead use that fear to push you to work harder. I’ve found that the things you are scared to do are the things you learn the most from whether that’s being scared to talk in front of a judge like I did in speech and debate or jumping off a deck onto a blob at summer camp. Both require bravery. The way I see it you’re not thinking big enough if your goals don’t scare you at least a little bit.
2. Charisma
According to Merriam Webster Charisma is a special magnetic charm or appeal. You know those people who can walk into the room and the energy changes. I want to be that kind of person. I believe charisma can be learned just like any other skill or trait. Charisma has to do with body language vocal tone and the words you say. With practice, all of the things listed above can be improved upon.
3. Kindness
I feel like this one is pretty self-explanatory but I’ll add a bit of detail anyway. Honestly, we can all use a bit more kindness towards friends, strangers, and family. Kindness is always appreciated no matter where you are in life. I don’t think it comes naturally to most people and I am no exception to this.
4. Creativity
Creativity is like a muscle the more you use it the better you get. I love discovering new ways to create. There is always a way you can grow. Always a way to learn a new skill or technique. For example, there is always a new way to use a tool on a program or a new way to paint a sky. Things you never thought of before all it takes is a little research and practice.
5. Determination
Determination: Firm or fixed intention to achieve a desired end. Merriam Webster.
I love this word and the meaning it has behind it. I want to grow my resolve to be sure I can tackle any task, obstacle or mountain that comes my way. When it comes to goals determination is one of your greatest assets in hitting those dreams you have.
Each one of these on their own will take time to develop but I know they are all worth the effort. One day I want these to be traits people use to describe me.
