My Book (The Power Of Words For Teens)

My Book (The Power Of Words For Teens)

Ever since I was little I have loved to write. I took many writing classes when I was younger and I enjoyed how they allowed me to use my imagination. When I was in 3rd grade I wrote a book about a cat who wanted to vote that won first place in the Reading Rainbow writing contest. I think it was then that I decided I wanted to write a book when I grew up.

Years past and I honestly forgot about that goal until I saw a kid named Caleb Maddix. Caleb at the age of 11 wrote a book published it and began promoting it. The more I watched his posts and listened to him the more I realized there was no reason I couldn’t do the same thing. All I needed was something to write about. It took me a little while to find a topic but eventually, I decided.

The book is called The Power Of Words For Teens. Honestly, the book is for anyone who is interested in it but I put teens in the title because I feel like teens are the ones who need it the most. Plus a teen talking to other teens makes sense and it’s relatable.

The Power Of Words For Teens is about why your words are important, how words can build you up or destroy you and how to use them for good. There are many stories and examples of me and my friends in the book. Honestly, the easiest part was writing the first draft. All the little edits were a lot more difficult for me. I also illustrated all the pictures in the book as well as the cover. Once all that was finished I went to the Amazon Kindle website and took a day or two to learn what I needed to do in order to self-publish my book for kindle. Thankfully Kindle is very user-friendly and I am a quick learner. Overall if you are looking to write a book and publish it Amazon is a really simple and great way to do it!

How does this experience create value for me?

  1. Creating a source of income.
  2. I now know how to write, publish and edit a book. If I ever want to publish another one it will be easier.
  3. This adds to my credibility to my personal brand.

How does this experience create value for others?

  1. My book teaches anyone who reads and implements the exercises in it about words and how to use them.
  2. If anyone around me ever wants to write a book and self-publish it I’ll be able to use this knowledge to help them.
  3. The design elements and knowledge I used can transfer easily to any graphics that an employer may need.

The crazy thing is being an author is one of my life goals and at the age of 19, I am officially an author. It’s almost scary because if I reached one of my life goals as a teenager it means I can do even bigger things in my life. The possibilities are endless!
