Portfolio Project Update Week 2

Portfolio Project Update Week 2

I am almost done with week 2 of my portfolio project for Praxis so it is time for an update!

Just in case you missed my original project outline post here is a short recap. My idea was to create a new tutorial video every day teaching people how to draw and improve their creativity. The point of this project was to build my skills up in a number of different ways here are a few: To get better at video editing, improve at creating explainer videos, learn how to market my Youtube channel so it is seen by potential viewers and improve my communication skills so anyone who watches my videos will be able to understand it. (For a more in-depth list here is my Outline Post)

Over the past week, I have been very busy creating the videos and making sure I get them out on time. As of right now, I am on track to hit my goal of 7 videos by Saturday the 13th.

You might be wondering how have I been able to stay on track? Well, this has been my process so far. Since I am a human being and still have a life to attend to most of my actual filming happens in the evenings. The next day is when I edit the video clips all together upload the video and publish it on my channel. Then I make some posts on my Instagram and Facebook pages letting people know they exist. By the time I’ve finished that it’s time to pick a new video topic for the next day and begin again. Honestly, the longest and probably the hardest part for me has been the editing.

One of the biggest problems I had been facing was that I was stuck using a very bad editor. It crashed randomly. Clips would mysteriously stop working and the thing took forever to load anything. Plus, I couldn’t add in basic editing effects I wanted to make my videos better. So, in order to fix this problem, I was able to get a new editor (iMovie) and learn how to use it in the span of a day so that I could edit videos faster, create higher quality content and not have as many hiccups in my workflow because of technical issues.

Throughout this process I have learned a few other techniques along the way to improve my videos as well, for example, I need to keep the camera on the left-hand side so you can see what I am doing with my right-hand. I’ve learned how to edit down an hours’ worth of film into a 13-minute video. I’ve improved my thumbnail design skills so that they are simple and easy to read as well as eye-catching. I have also been researching ways to improve search ranking on Youtube so my videos will come up when people search that subject (This is called SEO). Overall I am enjoying this project and learning a lot.

Next week I will continue to make more videos every day. I also want to begin to implement the ranking strategies I have been learning about as well.

Here are the videos I have created so far:
