Portfolio Project Update Week 3

Portfolio Project Update Week 3

Welcome to the week 3 Portfolio Project update!

I’m glad you’ve stuck with me this far. Just in case you missed my original project outline post here is a short recap. My idea was to create a new tutorial video every day teaching people how to draw and improve their creativity. The point of this project was to build my skills up in a number of different ways here are a few: To get better at video editing, improve at creating explainer videos, learn how to market my Youtube channel so it is seen by potential viewers and improve my communication skills so anyone who watches my videos will be able to understand it. (For a more in-depth list here is my Outline Post)

Last week I went over a challenge I’d been facing and how I was able to solve the problems. I also mentioned I was researching SEO (Here is a link to last week’s post) The idea behind SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is when you use it your videos will show up on the front page of a YouTube or Google search. This makes it a lot easier for your audience and viewers to find you.

This week I continued to create videos as well as started using what I learned about YouTube SEO to help me reach more viewers. Here are the results I got this week out of the 8 videos I published and used the SEO I’d learned. 6 videos had traffic that came almost purely from YouTube searches. The other 2 videos had no data available. Another thing I decided to do this week was look up what kind of things other people were searching when it comes to drawing and art. I took a screenshot and started making videos based off of those suggestions.

I figured I might as well make videos I know people want to see rather than throwing videos up at random and seeing what works by trial and error which takes way too much time as well as energy and is much less effective in comparison. One last thing I began to do this week, I went through my older videos and embed them into my older blog posts. This is also an SEO strategy I learned.

Over the past week, I have created 7 more videos. I have also learned to become much more proficient with iMovie. As well as began implementing the video/SEO strategies I’ve been learning. I have also noticed that I am having to edit a lot less of the video clips I use. So I feel like this shows improvement in the area of being able to make myself clear without extra rambling when I explain a concept. If I’m being honest I’m a little disappointed with the number of views and traffic that has come with the type of videos I chose to make so at the end of this project I will be re-evaluating the costs and rewards of continuing with this type of video on my channel after. But for now, my results have improved since the beginning of this project so that is good.

One thing I am happy with this week is I got a nice desk that is perfect for filming my videos on and should help with another small bit of video quality it also helps me film my videos faster and more efficiently.

A challenge I faced this week was the fact that I had to spend about 3 days at my old house because my family is still moving and there was no wi-fi there so I had to make sure I had content up and ready to go so I could publish it from my phone. That by it’s self-wasn’t really challenging but not being able to spend that time learning and researching was rather frustrating.

Next week I will continue to create videos. I would like to double up on days and release 2 videos a day so that I can finish around the 31st and not have to worry about this challenge next month. I will also continue to implement the SEO strategies I’ve learned so far.

Here are the videos I created this week:
