How To Add Dungeons and Dragons To Your Resume
WARNING: This post is about a make-believe world filled with fantasy creatures, adventures and a lot of dice!
But seriously if you have ever experienced Dungeons and Dragons (also known as D&D) you understand how entertaining it can be. Even as bystanders enjoy watching a good game of D&D.
Just in case you are new to the idea of D&D let’s go over a quick summary of the game. D&D is what is called a tabletop game. Most of it happens inside your imagination. You need a pencil, paper, some rulebooks, a set of roleplay dice and your imagination. It’s basically like reading a book except you are the main character so you make all the decisions. (If you want to learn more about what D&D is I have a video on my YouTube channel Here)
Because this game has been so good for me I want to share some benefits I’ve found that you can add to your resume if you play D&D a lot.
- Attended weekly creative problem-solving meetings. (You showed up and finished quests right?)
- Gained experience to build character and grow necessary skills. (You leveled up your character)
- Is well versed in preventative conflict resolution. (Albeit most of these involved long swords but you probably talked yourself out of a fight at least once)
- Organized weekly teambuilding exercises (This one applies only to DMs) or attended weekly teambuilding exercises. (It’s hard to do well unless your group works as a team)
- Learned to quickly choose the proper tool to get the job done. (Lockpick? Sword? Spell?)
What do you think? Would any of these look good on your resume? If you do use them I probably wouldn’t add the parentheses. But if you’re asked about them don’t lie, that’s never a good start to a relationship, especially with a new employer. I hope you enjoyed this post! If you have any ideas about this subject that I missed add them in the comments below.
