A Solution To Our Broken School Systems In America?
Everybody knows the public school system in America has many problems so many it would take too much time to list. Many would even venture to say it’s broken. I’ve included these spoken word videos that outline some of the issues with how education is run today.
Don’t get me wrong here, I’m not saying all schools are terrible. I know many amazing teachers who truly care and make great impacts on their students! But even they often feel like their hands are tied when it comes to things and ways they could do to help their students but can’t due to the rules.
Now you might be wondering why I suddenly decided to write about this subject. Well I attended a call this week where the speaker was talking about a new system for schools around the country (in the U.S.A. specifically.) The Speaker Jason Bedrick explained how the system worked. The system is called Education Savings Accounts (Or ESAs.) Note: These are not the same as college savings accounts like at the bank, 529 plans, etc. The way they work is, instead of assigning kids to a school based on what school district they live in, each family is given the choice of what school they’d like their child to attend. They basically have vouchers or an account that allows them to choose
I found the topic very interesting. As a homeschooler myself I never had much interest in going to school. I honestly couldn’t imagine spending that much of my day not being able to get my work done and move on to the things I wanted to do.
With this possibility Mr. Bedrick even suggested that the vouchers could be used in parts. If a child wanted art from one school but a private school had a better science class he could spend part of the day one place and part at the other splitting the voucher to customize their education for exactly what they wanted.
Right now the programs are still being tested but the majority of the impacts seem to be great! If you would like to know more about this subject you can visit: www.Edchoice.org. (I promise I’m not sponsored I just found the topic interesting)
I’m not sure if this is the exact solution to all or even most of the school systems’ problems in America but it seems like a great stepping stone to the future!
