What If I Look Foolish?
I have a question for you. What is one thing in life that is holding you back because you don’t want to look foolish? You’re afraid to look like a fool so you’re avoiding taking the action you need to take.
Is it not picking up the phone and cold calling? Is it a dream you have but don’t want to fail or look stupid so you just ignore it? Is there an action you need to take? A book you need to write? A product you need to create? A person you need to talk to? A girl you need to ask out?
I was asked that important question this week and I realized I’ve been letting fear hold me back big time lately. As a lot of you know I am not only an author but a musician and songwriter as well and it’s finally gotten to a point where my next step needs to be, record my EP and get the songs on it copyrighted.
I’ve been afraid of looking unprofessional because the equipment I have, although it will due, and is not bad. I still feel insecure about it and the quality of it. Like any other artist, I want my work to be the best it can be. But there comes a point where you have to just work with what you’ve got. You see opportunities can’t walk through your door if you never open it for them.
Granted I still need to finish the EP album. But I have done plenty of things even at the age of 20 that I was scared to do for fear of failure and foolishness. Like, writing my book, auditioning for America’s Got Talent and American Idol, starting 2 different YouTube channels and probably more. (Sometimes I honestly forget some of the stuff I’ve had the privilege of doing.) But not once have I ever been called foolish (to my face at least) for any of the things I’ve tried (including the stuff I “failed” or was really bad at.) Every time I talk about any of it I’ve had questions and most of the time people say “Wow! That’s cool!” The worst I’ve ever gotten is apathy. Plus now I have a tone of really awesome stories!
So what is the thing that you’ve been avoiding because you don’t want to look foolish? Leave it in the comments below! (If the idea of commenting it scares you then you’re probably on the right track. All the more reason to comment it!)
